Cristiano Ronaldo leave Manchester United by “mutual agreement” following serious allegations he made in an interview, capping off an illustrious career at the club. He left without a payoff, and he has no restrictions on where he can play next.
United had hired lawyers to investigate potential legal action against Ronaldo for alleged contract breach, but their preferred option was to engineer his departure, which was confirmed on Tuesday.
According to a statement, “Cristiano Ronaldo leave Manchester United with immediate effect.” The club wishes him and his family well for the future and thanks him for his enormous contribution during two spells at Old Trafford,
Scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances.
Manchester United is committed to building on the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to achieve success on the field.”
Ronaldo claimed that he was being forced out of United, that senior executives lacked empathy after his newborn son died in April, that the Glazer family, the club’s owners, do not care about the club, and that Ten Hag, the manager, did not respect him.
Ronaldo is with Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar, and in his absence, United barred him from the training ground and investigated legal options.
Ronaldo, whose contract expired in June, had about £13.5 million left on it.
We have mutually agreed to end our contract early after discussions with Manchester United. I adore Manchester United and its supporters, and that will never change. However, it appears that the time has come for me to look a new challenge.” In January, United may look to replace him.

Between 2003 and 2009, Ronaldo won the Champions League, three Premier Leagues, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Fifa World Player of the Year award during his first stint at United.
The first early departure came when Ronaldo was taken off at half-time of Rayo Vallecano’s July friendly at Old Trafford, Ten Hag having removed him because it was Ronaldo’s first appearance after missing most of pre-season due to a family issue. Although other United players, including Diogo Dalot, left early, Ronaldo was the only one who remained in the matchday squad.
Ten Hag warned him, but before the final whistle of October’s 2-0 victory over Spurs, the forward refused to enter as a replacement twice before exiting down the tunnel. The manager suspended Ronaldo for the following game, but then named him captain for the 3-1 loss to Aston Villa on November 6.
Ronaldo’s last appearance for United was his last, and his next move is unknown. Chelsea expressed interest in the summer, but it is believed that this was more the desire of the co-owner, Todd Boehly, than the then-manager, Thomas Tuchel, who vetoed signing the player. It is believed that Chelsea will no longer pursue Ronaldo.
Napoli, another option, recently ruled out signing him in January, despite the fact that as a free agent, Ronaldo can join any club at any time. If finding an acceptable team in Europe proves impossible, consider playing in Major League Soccer, the Chinese Super League, or a lucrative move to a western Asian club. Ronaldo recently claimed that he was offered a two-year contract worth €305 million to play for a Saudi Arabian team last summer.
“Following discussions with Manchester United, we mutually agreed to terminate our contract early,” Ronaldo stated in a statement.
“I love Manchester United and also its fans, and that will not change.” However, it looks that it is time for me to look for a new challenge.
“I wish the squad the best of luck for the rest of the season and in the future.”
